ABOUT Robyn Black

Robyn Black is one of Canada’s great vocal talents. With a career as a singer, songwriter and studio vocalist that spans over two decades, Robyn is now stepping into centre stage as a solo recording artist.

Robyn is one of the featured vocalists of “Oakland Stroke”, a Toronto based horn band led by producer Lou Pomanti. “Very few singers can sing tough material like she can. She is that good,” Pomanti says of Robyn’s upcoming features on his latest album “Lou Pomanti & Friends.” In 2022, there will be two new songs from this powerhouse vocalist and Robyn’s full length album, to be produced by Pomanti, is underway. Robyn is also a featured performer for the George St. Kitts Band, one of Toronto’s premier sources of musical entertainment, and she enjoys sharing the stage with other amazing musicians for other exciting projects and productions.

Music is in Robyn’s blood. Her parents were active performers on the Montreal music scene, so from a young age, Robyn was drawn to the stage. As a youth she performed in several musical theatre productions, including “Annie”, “Mother Goose”, and “Cinderella”. At fourteen she recorded her first single, a pop song called “Freaky”, which charted on Z95’s top 30. In high school, Robyn had the privilege of performing one of the lead roles in the Manitoba Theatre Company’s world premier of the rock and roll musical “The Wave”. Robyn has also enjoyed singing the national anthems at sporting events for the Canuck’s, Lions, Seahawks & Mariners, and had the honour of sharing the stage with the Backstreet Boys.

Robyn is regarded as a top session singer, and has recorded demos, background vocals, and voice overs on countless recordings for producers and projects around the world. She has collaborated with Chin Injeti, Justin Gray (Mariah Carey / Avril Levigne), Matthew Tishler (Disney / Nickelodeon), Vince Degiorgio (N’Synch / Love Inc), Craig McConnel (Celine Dion / Keshia Chante), Lou Pomanti (Blood Sweat & Tears / Michael Buble), and many more. Robyn holds song credits with Japanese recording artists Crystal Kay, Kylee Saunders, TAEYEON, Korean artist BoA, and American artist Sarah Haze. She has songwriting placements on shows such as Disney’s ‘Austin and Ally ‘and Nickelodeon’s ‘How To Rock’. Robyn’s voice has been used in television commercials for Folgers, Belair Direct, Bell Canada, Greyhound and Staples. Robyn is known as a very versatile singer, and her ability to take direction, to make songs her own, and to capture an audience is what makes her so special. She will be an unstoppable force as she embarks on this new journey as a solo artist.

Based in Toronto, Robyn is anticipating returning to the stage as a featured artist of Lou Pomanti’s Oakland Stroke, the George St. Kitts band, as well as releasing her debut album soon.
